Spanish Impressionist Painter. His elder brother was a painter. He was influenced by him and did similar works which were historical genre works. Stylish ladies and gentlemen of the 18th century. He went to Paris in the 1870s, and quickly fell under the spell of the Realists, Naturalist painters there. His art changed from those historical narrative paintings to a more naturalistic style, paintings of country peasants etc.
